Brief Description: The World is facing a 4th industrial revolution based on ICT where traditional factories will be increasingly digitalized and transformed into smart connected environments. These will integrate new platforms and services that help them become more efficient. However, European SMEs’ needs around Manufacturing ICT solutions are far from being satisfied in an affordable way leading to diverse and non-interoperable systems. vf-OS addresses such needs.It offers a manufacturing orientated cloud platform, supporting a multi-sided market ecosystem that provides of a wide range of services to achieve the connected factory of the future. The vf-OS Open Platform exploits advanced ICT (e.g., CPS, IoT, Cloud-models, M2M, security) delivering Software developers an Open Applications Development Kit (OAK) to allow manufacturing companies a fast way to develop and deploy smart solutions (vApps) for manufacturing and logistics processes.

Brief Description:  BigDataOcean aims to capitalise on existing modern technological breakthroughs in the areas of the big data driven economy, and roll out a completely new value chain of interrelated data streams coming from diverse sectors and languages and residing on cross technology innovations being delivered in different formats in order to revolutionise the way maritime-related industries work, showcasing a huge and realistic economic, societal and environmental impact that is being achieved by introducing an economy of knowledge into a traditional sector which does not operate in an orchestrated manner and is rather fragmented. Combined with our four strong pilots, BigDataOcean is developing the largest maritime database as a resource of collaborative, data-driven intelligence.

Brief Description:  2 Projects funded by I4MS which focus on developing predictive maintenance solutions for the food manufacturing sector.

Brief Description: SMEs are the most active and common company profile in the northern part of Portugal. Their willingness to the integration of CPS modules in their manufacturing processes and adhesion to CPPS systems is firmly based on their perception that value added services will result from that technological evolution and in the future better tools are expected to guarantee process control, surveillance and maintenance. The main objective of the experiment is to investigate the applicability of the BEinCPPS components in the SMEs’ environment for improving the performance of processes. The industrial use-case in this proposal is in fact seeking to move towards an operational CPS-based production process with the support of BEinCPPS modeling and simulation components for the design and execution of such as process.

Digitising Industry - A systems Integrators approach to industry 4.0 implementation (EB1.5)


Brief Description:  Control 2K Limited (C2K) are Industry 4.0 Integrators that understand the business requirements for digitising Industry. They have deployed their software suite (www.industreweb.com) in a number of automotive companies and have demonstration facilities in South Wales UK. The biggest challenge for any manufacturing company to adopt Industry 4.0 methodologies and practices is to understand the impact of change on their organisations. It is also important for Integrators like C2K to develop their software services working with lead academics and organisations around Europe to learn and exploit the latest thinking in research. Brief Description:  The SDK4ED project aims to minimize the cost, the development time and the complexity of low-energy software development processes, by providing tools for automatic optimization of multiple quality requirements, such as technical debt, dependability, energy efficiency, and performance. The SDK4ED is going to establish a set of forecasting methods and best practices to assess options for repaying technical debt, appropriate timing and items to be improved, under the energy consumption and dependability constraints imposed. Besides, specialized tools for predicting and identifying security vulnerabilities will significantly contribute to the optimization methodology.

Three representative use cases from the aerial vehicle, healthcare, and automotive domains will be deployed in real operational environments to assess the impact of the project's innovations and showcase the operations in general use context.

Brief Description:  Some of the biggest problems tackling Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are student’s drop-out and academic disengagement. Physical or psychological disabilities, social- economic or academic marginalization, and emotional and affective problems, are some of the factors that can lead to it.

This problematic is worsened by the shortage of educational resources that can bridge the communication gap between the faculty staff and the affective needs of these students.

In this booth, we present a project that works to face this problem. Additionally, presents a framework capable of collecting analytic data, from an array of emotions, affects and behaviors, acquired either by human observations, like a teacher in a classroom or a psychologist, or by electronic sensors and automatic analysis software, such as eye tracking devices, emotion detection through automatic facial expression recognition software, among others

Brief Description:  CARELINK aims to deliver an intelligent location monitoring system, which can be customized to meet the unique needs of the Dementia patient and their career. Within this solution the project is addressing the issue of wandering in Dementia patients, using machine-learning technologies to build route profiles, and thus provide tracking and early warning systems for careers if a patient deviation occurrence looks like a wandering situation

Devices with sensors and GPS and proper training can and will be used to develop solutions that meet the needs of Dementia patients and their surrounding community. In current developments, the project is meeting and interviewing with healthcare professionals and patients to understand their specificities and to develop solutions that provide safety, comfort and ease the stress of family and careers. With that aim, the project presents services that are being developed and range from customized devices to those based on smartwatches and smartphones.

Brief Description:  We are witnessing today the emergence of development and modernization projects planned for the railway sector. 

This project will focus on an approach based on digital pedagogy.

The sustainability of this project plans to create platforms for research and training and a railway-training observatory. 

In terms of transfer of knowledge developed the project will lead to the creation of a micro-enterprise for the development of pedagogical tools for the sector.
